Google Chrome browser is at risk

A dangerous threat targeting the Google Chrome browser

The cases of fraud through unknown applications have been on the rise lately, and the danger now looms over one of the world's most popular browsers, Google Chrome.

If you are a user of Google Chrome, you must exercise caution while browsing the web, as cybersecurity experts have warned of a hidden threat targeting users of this browser, luring them into downloading malicious software through fake updates.

Proofpoint, the American cybersecurity company, has reported a significant increase in online scammers worldwide using this method to spread data-stealing viruses.

The danger arises from the appearance of fake updates for Google Chrome along with a seemingly official web page that informs users they need to update immediately to continue viewing content.

These fake messages closely resemble genuine browser upgrade notifications, using logos and design elements to mimic official Google pages.

When you click the update button, a genuine browser update is not downloaded; instead, malware is delivered.

It's essential to note that this threat is not limited to Google Chrome alone, as the American company has also detected similar fake updates targeting Firefox and Edge browsers.

To avoid this danger, if you encounter a sudden alert on your browser while browsing the web, you should ignore it and close the window, as most browsers receive automatic updates.

You can always check for an official update through the settings menu on your device.
