Google redesigns the Drive application on Android and iOS

Google has announced a redesign of the home page for its cloud storage service, Drive, on both Android and iOS systems, aiming to facilitate quick access to files.

In this context, the use of the card-style layout in the suggested files tab has been abandoned, where previews appeared small and less distinctive.

Instead, Google has opted to replace this style with a list to display more files that have been recently opened, shared, or edited, along with showing recent activities such as comments and replies.

The Activity tab has been replaced with the Notifications tab, following a similar approach to the modern web version. The Activity tab uses the card-style layout to display user-relevant items, such as pending access requests, recent comments, and pending approvals.

A new circular camera icon has been added above a new button, allowing access to the camera and the ability to scan documents. For those who do not wish to use the home page by default, they can open the application on the last-used tab.

Google is expected to roll out the new interface for the Drive app in the coming weeks for all Google Workspace subscribers and free personal accounts.

Drive recently received new features, such as browsing two pages in PDF files, the ability to draw and highlight, in addition to testing new search options.
